Halong Bay’s limestone caves possess outstanding characteristics which contribute to unique quality of this UNESCO Word Heritage Site. The caves’ aesthetic value is obvious from the moment you step inside. Covered in stalactites, stalagmites and a diverse composition of rock, travelers will find themselves temporarily transported back in time. Surprise Cave, and the other caves in Halong, were formed as the region underwent geological processes that lasted around 500 million years. This spectacular seascape sculpted throughout history is truly a natural treasure. The largest cave in Halong Bay is Surprise Cave covering an area of approximately 10,000 sqm.
Time and Location
We will visit the caves, including the most famous and largest cave in Halong Bay, Surprise Cave, usually in the morning of the 3rd day.
Tips
Visiting caves often involves hiking so if you have any problems with your knees, or with walking in general, please consult our tour guide. Surprise Cave is huge but some parts of the first chamber have small entrances. This may be uncomfortable for those suffer from claustrophobia. If you think this may be a problem, please let The Au Co crew know for further assistance. Make sure to have proper shoes and don’t forget your camera. Guests will be able to take wonderful pictures from high vantage points in the cave.
